Dance classes in Elkhorn
Troupe is a studio for ages 3 to 18 with a recreational track and a company track under one roof. Not sure which one fits your dancer? Take a class, and our teachers will talk both through with you.

Programs by age
Every age has classes on weekdays and on Saturday. The company track is for ages 9 to 18 and begins with an audition. Neither track ranks above the other; they ask for different numbers of hours.

Choose your track
Both tracks learn from the same teachers in the same rooms. They differ in how much time a week they ask for and in what the year builds toward.

One or two classes a week, a new style to try each year and a recital in May. No audition; a dancer joins when there is room, and can change tracks at the start of any session.

Three to four days a week from September to May, a few regional events each season and the May recital. It begins with an audition in August, and we describe the time, travel and extras before anyone decides.

The people
Nine teachers share the week. These four lead the recreational and company tracks, and every dancer meets them in the first year.

Director and company teacher
Constanza started Troupe so that families could choose between a relaxed class and a company without leaving the studio they know. She teaches the company's ballet and contemporary classes, and she speaks Spanish with families who prefer it.

Teacher, recreational track
Beatrice leads creative movement and ballet and tap, where many dancers take their first class. She keeps the recreational track relaxed, and she runs the watch weeks and the May recital.

Teacher, jazz and hip hop
Latrell teaches jazz, hip hop and teen open styles on both tracks. He says a class should feel like a good song: a warm-up, a groove, and a short routine to finish.

Teacher, company and conditioning
Kaori teaches the company's contemporary class and the Saturday conditioning class. She works with each dancer on how to practice at home, and with parents on what a week of company looks like.
From families
“We did not know which track to pick. The placement visit was one class, and the teacher laid out both without pushing either.”
“Nobody rushed us. We started on the recreational track and talked about the company in the spring, once we knew what a week was like.”
“The extras page told us what costumes and events are for before we signed up. It is the first studio that did.”

Questions
Book a placement visit. A dancer joins a class with a teacher watching, and the teacher tells you which stage fits. Wear a leotard and tights or practice clothes; socks are fine for the first visit.
Start with how much time your family wants to give. The recreational track is one or two classes a week with no audition. The company track is three to four days a week, is for ages 9 to 18, begins with an audition and includes a few regional events. A placement visit helps; so does the programs page, which sets the two side by side.
Costumes for the May recital are ordered in the winter and billed before the show, one for each class that dances. The recital has a production charge for each dancer, and guests need tickets. The company track adds an audition charge, entries to regional events and travel for those that need it. Our figures are on the registration page.
A grown-up waits nearby for ages 3 to 5. Every session has a watch week, when families sit along the wall and watch the class. On other days the door stays closed so dancers can hear their teacher.
Yes. Constanza Melendez, the director, speaks Spanish with families who prefer it, in a placement visit or on the phone.
